Summary
Our mid-30s protagonist is well on her way to building a successful new life in Japan — in just her first year in the country she has made best friends for life, had career success as an academic in a Tokyo university, and in a whirlwind romance, has met the man she thinks she's going to marry. But her faith in that relationship is blown to pieces when she suddenly finds herself held hostage by a Yakuza gang, led by the charismatic but chaotic Majima Goro. The after effects of this experience will continue to ripple outwards, as she grapples with her new reality — now witness to a much darker side of life in the neighbourhood of Kamurocho.
