Summer 1999.
Promised freedom, change and exploration. The house to himself and the world finally his―and plenty of time to work on a brand new project―Nikolai finds himself suddenly burdened by the arrival of a complete stranger, invited to stay over for the aestival session. Not his fault that his plans are thrown in disarray, but perhaps he can attempt to turn this bad luck around.
What he does not count on, however, is that, through a series of quick snapshots and stolen moments, this stranger will offer him far more than he could ever dare imagine―while also giving a new meaning to artistic exploration so that, in the end, Nikolai has no choice but to discover himself too.

It is the final day of the siege of Suchdol. Judgement Day, some would call it later on. The Praguers' camp had been razed to the ground by reinforcements arriving from Rattay: with Markvart dead, the rest of their forces flee.
Yet, despite being taken back, no victorious hymns echo through the fort. Mortal silence falls upon them: in the heart of the inner courtyard, Sir Hans Capon of Pirkstein kneels, unmoving, on the blood-soaked ground. No words reach him—no hands are strong enough to pull him away. Those who try to approach him cross themselves: the young lord is blind to the world.
It is only Father Godwin’s prayer that breaks through; his palms shaking, spread over Hans’ head: Pater noster, qui es in cælis, sanctificetur nomen tuum; adveniat regnum tuum. Fiat voluntas tua.
Fiat voluntas tua, he repeats, and waits.
Sicut in cælo et in terra, Hans finishes, his voice breaking. He raises his eyes for the briefest moment—as Godwin kneels down to gently pry his hands away.
Henry’s body in his arms is already cold.

“How did you…”
Hans trails off as Henry rises to his feet, every movement taut as stretched leather. The birds screech in the trees; Henry turns his back to the fire, to Hans, and gazes across the overlook into the forest below. His gloved hands are in fists by his sides. Morning light glints faintly on the rusted rivets of his brigandine.
Here it comes, whispers a faint voice in the back of Hans’s head.
Henry tracks down a poacher in the woods. Unrelated: Lord Hans Capon is experiencing possibly the lowest moment of his life to date. One thing leads to another, someone takes a sword (?) wound in the thigh, and everything gets more complicated.
Set during the canon KCD 2 storyline; spoilers for the Bird of Prey quest.
