Summary
Violet Jones has just been released from prison on parole after serving seven years of a ten-year sentence. Sent to prison at the tender age of sixteen, Vi is now out in the real world again, armed with two goals: find her younger sister Powder and prove her innocence. Her pleas of innocence have fallen on deaf ears for years...until she meets her new parole officer.
Caitlyn Kiramman is a newly minted parole officer, eager to start helping her parolees get back on their feet. As the daughter of the District Attorney and a federal judge, she's ready to step out of her parent's shadows and forge her own path.
What she hadn't anticipated, however, was who her very first client would be. Her relationship with Vi starts off on the wrong foot from the beginning, since Caitlyn's mother was the one who put Vi in prison in the first place. But Caitlyn is not her mother, and more than that, she believes Vi's claim of innocence.
Something about Vi's case has never sat right with her, so Caitlyn decides to do some digging. What starts out as a casual inquiry into Vi's case, very quickly snowballs into something neither Vi nor Cait could've predicted, endangering them both.

Summary
“Eh?” Vi blinked down at the girl, a bewildered expression. She said something back, only for the teen to cut her off with more rapid, and rabid, French, motioning to Caitlyn emphatically and then pointing to Vi.
Caitlyn watched them argue back and forth, feeling a bit put off over the fact she couldn’t understand the conversation that apparently involved her. With a dramatic eye roll, Vi peeled away to face Caitlyn again, hands on her hips.
She gave Caitlyn a deliberate look up and down, like she was scanning for a bomb at the airport and came away like she was disappointed she couldn’t find one.
“Tell you what, city girl, I have to go and do some sap collecting. Why don’t you come along for a quick tour to pass the time while you wait?”
Caitlyn goes to a sugar bush.

Summary
“Are you happy, Cait?”
Who knew such a simple question could be so loaded? Caitlyn Kiramman sure didn't. She thought she was happy. She had the seemingly perfect life. Good job, stable family, more money than any one person had any right to have, a fiancée who loved her. Everything was coming up Kiramman, as far as the universe was concerned. But was this really it? Was this what happiness truly was?
Was this as good as it gets?
~~~~
Vi was pretty sure this was as good as it was going to get for her. Fresh out of prison, with a roof over her head, a good job, a best friend that hadn't abandoned her, and her sister...she finally had her sister back in her life again. Her life felt good for the first time in a long time. Not perfect, because perfect was a fantasy, at least for Zaunites like her. They didn't get perfect, not like the Pilties did. But for Vi, this had to be as good as it gets.
“Get it together, Nolan,” he speaks right behind her. Right over her shoulder. Cold salt air grazing her jaw. “I don’t have time to babysit you.”
Summary
Violet Lanes is nothing if not a survivor. From the abuse in the foster system, to the unforgiving streets of the Lower East Side, Vi has taken every hit imaginable but has stayed standing. She’ll never stop. Not until her little sister has the life she deserves.
Caitlyn Kiramman, however, could not come from a more different world. Daughter of a real estate developer and New York City councilwoman, Cassandra Kiramman, and the respected Doctor Tobias Kiramman, the Columbia pre-med student has wanted for nothing her entire life, every conceivable luxury at her fingertips. Her greatest hardship to date? Leaving the comforts of the Kiramman mansion in London for a penthouse in Manhattan.
Vi has spent her life putting up walls, protecting herself and her younger sister from the world’s cruelties. When Caitlyn Kiramman comes into her life, Vi never expects any chemistry between them to grow beyond tension and attraction. But as Caitlyn gets closer, Vi finds herself facing emotions she’s spent years burying. Navigating a tangled web of class differences, trauma, and emotional walls, they find a bridge between their two worlds in the relationship they forge. Is it meant to be? Or are they simply Oil & Water?
