Limping footsteps padded against the marble floors of the omega men’s harem. Techno straightened from the cushion he’d been drowsing on and shoved himself upright. “Phil?” He kept his voice low, trying not to disturb anyone.
A shadowy figure turned in his direction. “Hey, Techno.” Phil chuckled, though it mostly sounded tired. “You didn’t have fuckin’ stay up for me.”
Techno cupped his hands around the light crystal and blew on it just enough to cast a soft glow on his face, and held it in his off hand as he handed Phil his cane. “Oh, you know how it is. When you’re gone I just wait for you to come back. Comes with bein’ a werewolf.”

Summary
The session is over. Pearl knows that, crouched waiting for Gem in the attic of her barn. She knows she should be heading home; she knows she shouldn't be waiting here for Gem to get back. But she sits still, crouched and waiting for the creak of Gem climbing the ladder.
Everyone else has gone home. She's heard Joel retreat to his car, had sent Impulse and Bdubs off so she could be alone with Gem. She should have gone with them, but she couldn't. Not yet. She had to sit, she had to wait. She had to see this plan through.
Her reward is finally, after so long she'd worried Gem had slept over at someone else's place, the sound of the grass rustling under feet. The opening of the fence gates follows, then they close, and the ladder creaks as Gem climbs. Her heart hammers in her chest, tail wagging behind her, excited to finally have her prize.
