Summary
He lets his gaze linger on her as she slips away after it. She moves quickly, calm and controlled, off through the forest. Her head tilts down to study the ground as she continues, looking for tracks. The breeze catches on her shoulder, and he watches her switch her step, tilting until it's blowing her scent down the wind. He’d seen her do that yesterday, as well. Michonne disappears behind a tall bush, and he almost sighs at the loss.
He’s quickly distracted, though. Another one of them makes a noise behind his back. He listens to its steps without turning his head, dull and uneven, tripping over the forest floor. Rick moves forward, hearing it continue after him, changing direction. His smell is blowing right down at it, and it locks on quick. He keeps moving. All his mind melts away, back into survival. It’s scary and gross, but it’s familiar. He knows what to do with it. There’s something larger than him out here, something that he can’t predict or lead. Something that takes his control away- just for a few seconds.

Summary
It’s just how it is these days. How he is. He used to be Rick Grimes, the loving father, the devoted husband, the well-abiding citizen. None of these titles fit him anymore. He’s grown more succinct or perhaps just shrunk into being less: Rick Grimes, the survivor. There are his children, their late mother, his group, his family. He thinks about everything he has to do for them, all of the things he might not be able to do. So funny: no more rationing food, no more rationing ammunition, no more watching his steps. So much free time, and he chose to spend it doing one of the most useless things he could do. Worry.
He sees a woman in a white dress. He must be losing his mind, truly, because his first thought at seeing her is not whether she poses a threat or what she’s doing here. Far more base, and far more simple. He thinks that she’s pretty. Refuses to linger on the word angel. She seems, he thinks instead, like the antithesis of an apocalypse survivor.
Or: Rick meets Michonne and the world starts again to make sense.
