    Six years ago, Shen Qingqiu escaped his plot-ordained death by secretly cultivating a new body. His rebirth came at a cost, however: the loss of his memories.

    Now, Shen Yuan claws his way out of the dirt with no idea where he is, who he is supposed to be, or why his System is malfunctioning. What he does have is a very devoted disciple, Bai Wentian, who claims that they are wandering cultivators who've known each other for years. As they set out to explore the world together, Shen Yuan finds himself becoming increasingly fond of this sweet, loyal young man. But although he recognizes the setting of Proud Immortal Demon Way, he soon realizes that this story is different: something, or someone, has substantially altered the plot.

    To uncover the truth, Shen Yuan will have to restore his missing memories… while also protecting Bai Wentian from this world's chief danger: the protagonist himself, Luo Binghe.

    “What, exactly, do you intend to do with those children?” The clear voice cut through the crowd.

    Wearing half a mountain’s worth of dirt and a patchy beard, the stranger reminded Six Balls of the Undead Bearded Bandit from pa’s bedtime stories. His hair fell in tangles to his waist, and bare, blackened feet poked out under the dirt-crusted robes.

    He looked… He looked like a real hero who’d just rolled out of a fresh grave. The coolest, scariest kind of hero was the fresh-out-of-a-grave kind, in Six Balls’s opinion; that was when they were about to wreck the bloodiest vengeance on anything standing in their path.

    “Children?!” yelled one of the stupider humans, who clearly didn’t know the best way to talk to an undead hero. (Don’t, if you can help it.) “These demons slaughtered six good men!”

    Or: When Shen Qingqiu wakes up in his new plant body exactly one day later than he does in canon, it throws the plot in a whole new direction.

Shen Yuan spends exactly two months dealing with harem intrigues, sullen maids and his husband utterly ignoring him before he decides to go on an extended holiday. Very extended. Surely no one will care if he just forgets about being married and becomes a cultivator, right?

    (In which Luo Binghe goes on a quest to bring his errant husband home and Shen Yuan takes him on an adventure instead.)

    The Veiled Soul-Seer was known for being able to grant a person's deepest desire. Luo Binghe went to her with the expectation that she'd deliver the kind, sweet Shizun he'd seen in the other world (the one married to that weak, unworthy version of himself). That was, after all, what Luo Binghe wanted most.

    So why did he wake up to find himself back in his fourteen-year old body, in the woodshed, as a disciple on Qing Jing Peak?

    Now his empire is gone, as is his harem, cultivation, and physical strength. He'll have to rebuild it all from scratch, and while knowing the future should speed things up significantly, acting like an innocent human child after hundreds of years of being an all-powerful demon emperor might be more difficult than he'd anticipated…
