Summary
Everything was more sensitive than usual. Sounds, smell, taste, usually it's easy to let these things fade into the background. Typically there was a certain threshold something had to cross until he registered it as either a threat and/or as something out of the normal. A scream, the burnt smell of smoke, the low hum of an explosion from miles away, even the faintest of changes beckoned his attention. Things like that were easy to distinguish by now.
Lois should not be one of these things.
Clark was especially sensitive to Lois’s needs and it was driving him crazy, least to say. He tried to mind his business as he usually did. He pretended to be completely oblivious. He had mastered the task of keeping himself occupied because he couldn't adhere to every crisis at any given time. But with those crises there were always other people nearby who could help, those situations often took care of themselves. Lois was his problem entirely.
