all of jessica's work is a masterclass in handling ada and leon, and this fic cuts right to the point and show exactly why she's so revered in the aeon space. every word is measured and effective, poignant fragments coming together to wholly encapsulate all the beautiful idiosyncrasies of their relationship.. unreal
i circle back to this every few weeks and/or whenever i find myself stuck while writing them and need a quick flash of inspiration (especially chapters 3+4 but the whole thing is lush x) -

She wants to curl inward and sob, to press her face against his chest and disappear into the chambers of his heart and survive only off the richness of his blood, as if that alone could keep the world at bay.

if i had to recommend one of my fics, it would be this one.
i love extended metaphors (especially if they pertain to religion or greek mythology) and character studies, and this is a character study composed entirely of metaphors. it's quite flowery and a bit removed from my usual writing style, but i'm incredibly proud of this piece.
(would it be a bit vain to call my own writing beautiful? x)

Ada had always been a mess of sharp edges and barbed wire, the inner workings of her heart both elusive and impenetrable.
But the Ada lying with her limbs tangled with his is soft and warm and solid under his touch, and not for the first time, Leon wonders how many have had the privilege to bear witness to this side of her, buried underneath the façade of a pragmatic, efficient spy, a ruthless killer.
He wonders if he might be the first, and perhaps, only one.
(Or: In the hours before dawn, Leon and Ada contemplate the past, present and future, and along the way, carve out their own safe haven.)

i am a massive, massive sucker for pillow talk in the wee hours before dawn breaks. it's such a slow, quiet stretch of time and it's the perfect backdrop for two characters to break down and be vulnerable with each other, and this piece is a gorgeous example of such a case. ada and leon in the shadows of their bedroom, their emotions drawn out from these dark recesses and gently laid out before each other. tender, raw communication. a marvel. x
