Summary
Trusting anything from Lau, be it words or gifts, was a terrible idea. Ciel knew this, and yet he’d done it, witlessly accepting the man’s offering. A parting gift, thanks for a lovely dinner party Ciel had thrown, dropped in his palm as the man left.
It was the boy’s fatal flaw: candy. Six pink little drops, wrapped in thin wax paper. Strawberry flavored. Not Ciel’s favorite, but he was not picky when it came to sweets and Sebastian knew this. The earl had eaten all of them, gone in five minutes.
Sebastian observed the boy from across the room. It’s nearly three in the morning. The servants are long asleep, and yet the earl remains in the dining room. Humming, of all things. It’s perplexing. Sebastian doesn’t think he’s ever seen the boy in a genuinely good mood. It unsettles him deeply.
