That’s fine.” He shifted the baby in his arms, looking down at the tiny, squirming face, the damp lashes clinging together. “You hear that? As long as you make it to the sect, everything’s good. Easy quest conditions. No trauma required.”
Luo Binghe made a faint snuffling sound, unimpressed.
Shang Qinghua’s smile collapsed almost instantly. “Oh, gods, what am I saying?” He scrubbed a hand over his face, leaving another smear of drying blood. “I’m not qualified for this! I can barely keep myself alive half the time! You need—uh—you need a responsible, kindhearted woman from a humble background with good soup-making skills, not a chronically overworked peak lord-slash-spy!”
The baby responded by making a small, gurgling noise that sounded alarmingly like agreement.
“Don’t sass me,” Shang Qinghua muttered. “You’re, like, twelve minutes old.”

Shen Jiu tilted his head and read the cover, “Proud Immortal Demon Way?” Shen Jiu squinted at the book that had caught his attention amongst other hundred books.
Qiu Haitang raised her head, “Oh? That book?” She tilted her head and showed a disdainful expression, “It certainly looked like it was a top quality book, right? Good paper, good cover/ But the content is a complete gibberish to me, truly, don’t judge a book by its cover.”
"Gibberish?" Shen Jiu opened it and saw several characters he couldn't make sense of. This might be interesting.
At that time, Shen Jiu didn't know this book would be his lifeline in the future as he was faced with life's incongruity and absurdity.
