"Sir, I have to ask you to wait then," says Xiao Zhan, politely.
The guy sighs again. "Look, I am really tired. I had a long day today. I am not trying to be rude, I just want to lie down. Please just let it slide this time. I just need a key to my room."
Xiao Zhan is beginning to lose his temper. He keeps smiling, however. "Sir, I am really sorry, but I cannot do that without checking some ID."
The guy abruptly removes his cap, making direct eye contact. "See? I am who I say I am."
Xiao Zhan's breath hitches.

Summary
When Yibo gets the call to represent Apolune in a last-minute substitution for the Genubian asteroid rights negotiation, he drops everything to make it to Helion before the talks start. He gets there before his wardrobe does, even; and after a reception that passes in a sleep-deprived haze, he wakes the next day ready to face down the Helion consul and hold the line for Apolune.
That would be fine—this is Yibo’s job, after all. It’s just unfortunate that the consul of Helion has a very familiar face.
