"Yeah, sure, g-go ahead, man." Buck cringes, and even that is adorable.
"Close your eyes."
"E-Eddie," Buck croaks helplessly.
"I'm not gonna bite, Buckley. Trust me?"
Buck closes his eyes. Squeezes them shut, really.
Eddie tugs his face into the curve of Buck's shoulder before he can lose the nerve, Buck's pulse fluttering wildly against the tip of Eddie's nose.
OR: Buck is struggling after the events in New Mexico. Eddie decides to move in with him about it.

“Bye, Eddie,” Buck says quickly, fluttering his lashes innocently at him, he smiles widely at glare he’s getting, and adds, “I love you.”
Eddie rolls his eyes, “Asshole,” he replies, his face blushed bright red.
(Or, Buck finds out that Eddie gets all flustered when someone tells him they love him. Naturally, Buck needs to tell him all the time now. It’s purely platonic, leave him alone.)

Eddie takes a step closer and cups Buck’s jaw, tilts his head slightly, pressing a quick kiss above his eye, right where his birthmark is. “See you in a bit,” he says.
Buck stammers for a second, face blushed, “Uh, I—I’ll wait?” he coughs, “Yeah, see you. Bye.”
(Or, five times Eddie kisses Buck’s birthmark in a perfectly friendly way, plus one time he kisses the man himself, and yeah, that isn’t best friend behaviour at all.)

After a long moment he said, rougher than he intended, “I should’ve pushed harder.”
Maddie didn’t interrupt.
“I knew he wasn’t okay.” Eddie rubbed a hand over the back of his neck. “Maybe not how bad, but I knew. And I let him tell me he was fine because…” He exhaled hard. “Because I wanted it to be true.”
The confession sat between them, stripped bare.
Maddie was quiet for so long Eddie wondered if he’d said the wrong thing after all. Then she leaned forward, elbows on her knees.
“Eddie,” she said softly, “if loving Buck meant always knowing how to save him, none of us would ever sleep again.”
