Penelope took three steps and felt a hand on her wrist. Colin grabbed her arm, pulling firmly, and spinning her around. His hand cradled her face as he bent down to kiss her, breathing her in as his lips covered hers.
That’s all it took for Penelope’s brain to short circuit. Colin was kissing her. It was soft and gentle, but sent sparks to all of her limbs. Her body turned into gelatin.
When they broke apart, she placed her hands on his chest, feeling the thud of his heartbeat underneath his shirt. His hand remained cradling her cheek.
“Why did you do that?” she asked quietly, her heart in her throat.
“I don’t know,” he breathed. He looked so young and scared suddenly. “I just felt like I should.”
