Summary
Sebek was used to running.
He frequently went on a run in the early morning when the air was still cold. When he was younger, Lilia would have him and Silver run through the forest, up steep mountains, and in thunderstorms for a warmup, emphasizing the importance of being able to run fast in any condition—a tactic even he thought was excessive as a child, but after having to run from Malleus’s lightning the year before, he couldn’t help but be thankful for the times where he was nearly electrocuted or drowned from a torrential downpour.
The sensation of air burning in his lungs and the lactic acid straining his muscles was familiar—he enjoyed it even. Running was a great way to keep both his mind and body sharp and in good shape.
He would enjoy running even more if his soulmate didn’t force him to run a damn marathon every time they met.

Silver didn’t consider himself injury-prone.
Sure, he probably received more than his fair share of scrapes and bruises, and he has definitely fallen out of more trees than the average person—but that was to be expected with an adolescence split between exploring the wilderness and training to be a knight. Cuts heal, bruises fade, and the soreness of his muscles was simply a testament to his diligence.
At least that’s what Silver kept telling himself as he worked through the grating pain shooting up his right leg.

His leg was still jittery, and he fussed with the edge of his cloak—the magical shifting of fabric between pink and blue as turbulent as his stomach felt in that moment.

The shrill cries get louder as Lilia carefully slices through the curling vines—the magic in the air getting thicker with each cut he makes.
When the thorns finally sneak back into an opening, Lilia freezes.
Curled in the hollow where the stone has cracked to let the briars grow is a fawn.
