Summary
“Could you... could you sleep downstairs tonight?” Clear eyes flit upward and catch on Shauna’s, locking the two in a staring contest all too familiar and all too foreign. Shauna takes a breath, but before she can respond Jackie rambles on, “I’m sure you and Tai have, like, a ton of fun up in the creepy attic, braiding each other’s hair or whatever. But... I need you, Shauna.”
(Or: another version of canon events.)

Summary
Jackie believes she can manage a life without Shauna, convinced that the miles between Rutgers and Brown are enough to heal the betrayal of that summer. But Lottie’s birthday forces them to breathe the same air once again, and what begins as a childish trap inside a claustrophobic pantry ends on a lonely road, wrapped in the absolute vulnerability of darkness.

Summary
“You know that song, that’s like ‘you’ve got a fast car, I want a ticket to anywhere, maybe we can make a deal?” Jackie says quietly when Nat returns to the porch.
“You mean the song called: Fast Car?” Nat follows her gaze to the truck. The last piece of her old man, and the only one really worth keeping.
She returns to look at Jackie, noticing the gym bag stuffed with clothes and cash.
“You’re not serious,” Nat scoffs with a laugh.
“Look, I don’t know about you, but I’m not ready to throw in the towel and die in fucking Wiskayok, New Jersey.”--
Follows roughly 10 years of one Natalie Scatorccio and one Jacqueline Taylor cohabitating in a Chelsea apartment while they learn how to be adults.

Summary
She sees Lottie’s eyebrow raise, lips pursing ever so slightly as Shauna pushes herself back from the bar, giving into everything inside her that’s screaming at her to interrupt them and stop this. She’s stopped by a hand, lightly grasping at her forearm, tightening ever so slightly. She looks up, and Lottie shakes her head – gesturing towards them in a way that Shauna assumes she’s supposed to get.
She doesn’t get it. Not until she manages to make out the way Lottie mouths she’s flirting. Oh.
So, there’s that.
Jackie Taylor likes girls. Shauna doesn’t know why she feels so weird about it.

Summary
What’s worse is the fact that Shauna was the person she called to pick her up and made it abundantly fucking clear that she was the last person on her list, like apparently even Jeff made the cut above her. She knows that, realistically there were more options, the bus system kinda sucks but it works and Jackie’s parents, as shitty as they are, know how to drive. It doesn’t hold water to rest on what-if’s, not when they don’t matter, not she is standing here, in the dying sun, waiting for a train.
(Or: five times Jackie and Shauna end up in close proximity and the one time they chose to be)
