Summary
The king believed he'd known better. The lying lover that resided in the basement contested that belief. How could he run a kingdom when those who carried his whole trust, a sliver of his soul, could so easily take the hilt of a dagger and lodge it in his back? Zephyr glanced back on the moment he learned of her- could he even say her name? the heartbreak felt too deep- Reylee's traitorous intent. A stranger, that's what the wizard was really, entered his throne room and announced it to all present. As much as the king wanted to deny it, Soana's voice was so genuine. Zephyr frowned. A Yuan-ti was more truthful than his own Devoted. Many thought the Yuan-ti were more snake than man, making them unreliable. In a way, Zephyr could agree. He had slithered into his own home and pierced his heart with venomous fangs. Was it for the better?

Summary
Sweet lilac filled his nose. From somewhere, he can hear a light humming. However, the silk sheets were too lovely to leave quite yet and the sun still hadn't made its way through the arched windows. Instead, he lied contently in place as his lover quietly sang. It was in different language, one light and languid. Each sound swirled together. He could barely tell where each word began and end. He merely appreciated the harmony of the foreign words. There was something soothing about the simplicity of not understanding. He must've of drifted off again, because now he felt a hand softly rouse him awake. "Meldanya, it is time to wake up." A honeyed voice purred above him.

“Why, I remember you once tried to steal the pipe right out of my pocket,” Gandalf said with fond amusement.
Oh, now that just wouldn’t do. If the wizard was going to bring up the old days, he could at least tell the stories correctly. Bilbo’s pride would accept nothing else. “And I quite succeeded, as you damn well know,” he said haughtily. “It’s hardly my fault you can’t go a minute without it and were already trying to pull it out again before I could leave the room!”
The wizard’s only response to this was a neutral hum.
“Wait,” said Thorin, holding up a hand. “So are you a burglar, or aren’t you?”
“I’m retired is what I am!” Bilbo snapped. “And I have no intention of getting back in the business, certainly not for this mad quest that is going to get everyone on it killed!”

Gandalf looked around impatiently. “Where is my hobbit? I hope you have not damaged him.”
“I’m here,” called Bilbo. He stood with the young princes a fair distance from the dais, so he waved to get Gandalf’s attention. Smaug, who was draped around his neck, let out an indignant puff of smoke at the disturbance.
Gandalf’s bushy eyebrows shot up and a smile spread across his face. “Indeed, here you are—and full of surprises, as I rather expected, Bilbo Baggins!”
