Summary
“Stay away from my ship,” he says.
The siren’s smile returns, slower now. “You brought your ship into my waters.”
The quartermaster turns back toward the skiff.
“Next time,” he says, “I won’t hesitate.”
The siren’s voice follows him, smooth and low.
“You already did.”

Every story he's ever heard begins and ends the same way: an enchanting voice rising from the shadows of the sea coated in promises and gold dust, and a man senseless enough to follow it.
Sirens kill.
They lie. They lure. And they kill.
Now, however, Jeongguk seems to be considerably more drawn to the sound of silence. An emptiness where a song should reside, sits a soundless melody shrouded in silver that seems to only allure him, and lingers in his mind more profoundly than any golden serenade ever has.
Jeongguk finds himself returning to that silence again and again. Listening as carefully as any sensible man should for the threat of a song. But Jeongguk does not listen out of fear, despite everything he knows about sirens. He listens as though he hopes, foolishly, that the silence might answer him again.
