It only hits Dirk approximately two days later.
He can offer only vague excuses as to why (there was a case, there was a parade literally outside his hotel window, a man chased them with a tuba and tried to hit them repeatedly), but really, they’re not good excuses, it’s a fairly major event and it’s a little ridiculous that he somehow muffled it against all the background noise.
As a result, it is only when they are back home and Dirk is in his own apartment, bringing a mug back to the kitchen when it abruptly occurs to him that, two days earlier, on a balcony, he kissed Todd on impulse.
