    Summary

"How do you…measure my devotion?" Phainon asks carefully. It sounds…well, it's no doubt due to the language barrier, but to 'measure' someone's 'devotion' sounds almost like something to ask a lover, or someone who's hand you're asking for in marriage. "I'd be willing to do most anything to prove my devotion to the cause."

"You have proven your strength of character, and you did not pass out in the throne room, which proves your perseverance," The prince acquiesces, and he pauses slightly at the small side table, strong back turned to Phainon. "I just…am, ah…curious, about…what else you interested in doing…while you are a guest in my home."

the democratic republic of okhema requires assistance from the kingdom of castrum kremnos to stay the black tide. phainon is sent by lady aglaea to beg boons of their crown prince—he proposes a partnership, a sort of political 'marriage' of their lands until the cancer inhabiting the lands is quelled with their joined strength.

he is given much more than he planned to bargain for.

    Summary

“You keep staring at me. You know, these eyes of yours,” Mydei continues, staring straight into Phainons' soul, “are the same as a hungry man.”

Phainons' breath hitches. She is hungry. Covetous. Bold and ugly with want like desperate men in love are. “Should I gouge them out for you then, princess?”

She would, she thinks. At just one word of Mydei’s, she’d rip them out and offer them as crown jewels. Mydei looks at Phainon for a moment, then another, longer, unreadable thoughts passing through her pretty eyes — and then she crooks her head ever so slightly; gives a soft smile Phainon hopes no one else will ever see but her:

“Keep them. Keep them, and teach me, Deliverer. Show me how to appease the men that look at me the same way you do.”

    Summary

the month of joy ritual goes by every year without a hitch, even amidst the flame-chase journey these kinds of celebrations and rituals shouldn't be ignored or left behind, everyone in okhema knows this. and especially concerning the phagousa's plenty ritual, this is something that is eagerly awaited right at the start of the month of joy, where phagousa's offering is planted upon someone, cultivated and then given back to the sea. the more offerings one could accept, the best their crops would be. on contrary, it's said that if the offerings are ignored or failed during their seeding stage, the rest of the year would see less fish, less crops and less food in general, and that's exactly why this particular ritual is so important. and every time, two people are drafted: the one who would receive the offering, and the one who would help seed it. this year, mydeimos and phainon's names were the ones sorted - for better or worse.

    Summary

while the month of joy allows okhema citizens to act more freely, it doesn’t mean they can just ignore their responsibilities and that of course also falls on the chrysos heirs. public nudity and sex is a common occurence during this month as phagousa likes so people can enjoy themselves and each other without shame. but all of this means that seeing mydei and phainon sparring naked during these times is a common thing and people are more than used to it, there’s even a crowd gathering each time because they can’t get enough of seeing mydei getting railed by phainon until he passes out. the chrysos heirs stamina is no joke.

    Summary

Aedes Elysiae burned for hours, despite everything they had tried. Nothing could be saved, except for their people; led by their formidable prince, the Kremnoans had found and shielded them from the Black Tide, for a price they were ready to pay. The deal was clear: in exchange for a new home, the strongest Elysians would be taken as war horses for the next Kremnoan campaign.

Phainon is chosen to become Mydei's mount… and much more than that, despite his own doubts.
