Summary
"Sometimes I feel like all of my patients are reflections of the people in my life. It's like, everyone I love is on my operating table at one point or another." She took their hand in hers and focused her attention on the rings stacked on each of their fingers. "Especially being a parent. Losing a patient isn't just that; it means I have to go out there and tell a mother her child won't ever make it to high school or tell kids that they'll never hug their parent again, which will weigh on me for weeks."

“So,” she sighed, hooking her pinky in theirs, “this is goodbye?”
“It’s never really goodbye.”

Summary
"I'm not sure if I'm going to go. I have a history of spiraling when people leave me, and I don't know if being around a ton of free champagne is a good idea."

Summary
She knew they wouldn't respond; they hadn't responded to her last 13 texts, not that she was counting. She knew they would respond, eventually. Hopefully.
It hadn't even been two hours since they stood from the swingset and walked through the gate, out of Amelia's view and possibly out of her life.
The thought made her shake. She turned off her phone and leaned her head back against the wall.

Summary
"I've never really lost someone," they mumble, moving their head slightly away from her shirt. "Not to death, I mean, a grandparent when I was little, but that wasn't really a huge life-altering thing for a six-year-old. I didn't get it then." She hums softly above them and runs her free hand through their hair. "I almost wish I had. I don't know how to grieve." A chuckle falls from their mouth, and they slowly inhale, allowing the scent of her perfume to become the focus of their thoughts.
