“Still not sleeping with you,” she whispered, voice shaky but teasing.
Mark let out a low laugh, brushing his lips against hers again. “Maybe not tonight…”
Something flickered across her face, the humor faltering, nerves slipping in. She hesitated, words tumbling like she’d been holding them back too long.
“Not… any night,” she blurted. “I mean… I wouldn’t even know,” she exhaled sharply. “I’ve never…”
Her cheeks flushed, her eyes darting away. “I’ve never been with anyone.”
The words punched through him. His body went taut, pulse hammering so loud he was sure she could hear it. Without thinking, his hands slid lower, gripping her hips and tugging her into him.

Helena arched a brow. “Tequila? Really? From that bottle?”
He smirked. “What, too lowbrow for you?”
She sniffed, playing it up. “If I’m going to drink agave, it should at least be better than well.”
The server set down two shot glasses, a couple of lime wedges, and a shaker of salt.
Helena sighed like it was beneath her, but licked the back of her hand, sprinkled salt into the hollow of her thumb and index finger anyway. Mark mirrored her, though his grin gave him away.
As she raised her hand, he caught her wrist and leaned in, licking the salt off her skin himself. The brush of his tongue hotter than it should have been.
“To your bougie standards,” he said, voice rough. He tossed back his shot in one clean tilt.
