When the trial was over, and Steve told him that he'd been awarded the largest pay-out to a single defendant in history, and that Jen said he would probably end up with almost seven billion dollars, and that the jury had originally wanted to give him $150 billion— as a statement that what had happened to him should never happen again to anybody— and that everyone was calling it a decisive statement about human rights and a victory for all victims of Hydra, and that Bucky was a hero now, and that he would always be a hero, and that he was free, that this money was his to enjoy, and that he could make up all the lost years now, that should do whatever he wanted, anything at all—
Bucky looked at him for a while in inscrutable silence.
"Does that mean—" He paused, as though engaged in a profound inner struggle. He frowned. Steve waited patiently. Bucky took a deep breath and let it out. "Does that mean I can buy my own donut factory if I want?"
That should have been when Steve started to have misgivings.

River endures assault courses, psychological torment and bad food at MI5 residential training, with only James 'Spider' Webb to cheer him up. He's fucked.
