What’s wrong? Atsushi asked again, and huffed when he wasn’t met with a reply. He stood up to get ready for work, but the moment he stepped outside the closet, a shiver ran down his back.
He tried to push back against Byakko, but the instinct coming from her was too strong. So strong, in fact, that he gave in to whatever ‘den’ meant and scampered back into his closet, bringing the closest couple of blankets and pillows with him.

The next time Atsushi awoke, his chains were gone. His cell was gone. The orphanage was gone. Laying in the grass, he could only see the expanse of a grassy meadow.
Even though the submersion was always painful, Atsushi never had the luxury of entertaining such peaceful dreams while he was unconscious. He tried to cherish this brief moment of peace. Half-conscious, Atsushi lay there, glancing at the extremely blue sky, grateful for a moment of respite.
There was a rustle.
Atsushi flinched, jolting up from his position. Looking to his left, he made eye contact with a tall man wearing a yukata.

Atsushi glanced over at his mentor and smiled. “Thank you Dazai-san.” A weirdly large feeling of affection suddenly engulfed him. Before Atsushi could snap himself out of his stupor, he gave into the instinctual urge to rub his cheek against his mentor’s shoulder.
Dazai glanced over at his mentee, before letting out a quiet snicker. “You’re quite the tiger Atsushi-kun…”
