He marries the woman who poisoned him with love potion, who repeatedly over the next ten years poisons him again and again until finally Lucius finds a cure. He stays for the children but when the last one climbs aboard the Hogwarts Express there's no reason to go back to that house with her anymore. He is free at last to go home.
