Summary
Eighteen months since Hawkins split in two, and things are at a complete standstill. No sign of Vecna. No sign of the Upside Down. Just endless days trapped in quarantine.
Until the day where everything changes. Will gets a nightmare unlocking a whole new perspective of Vecna, Holly starts seeings things, and the power goes out at the WSQK.
From there, things feel a whole lot less at standstill.
Not to mention Mike Wheeler has spent the last 18 months feeling like he's pretty much losing his mind.
This is my version of season 5 because what the hell what that! I'm going to hope I can pull off a good plot, but my main focus will be in the character arcs because I think the Duffers did some characters dirty (cough Mike Wheeler cough). ALSO Byler of course because I have to do something to cope.
Primarily told through the points of view of Mike, but definitely including chapters with the other characters POVs as well.
Gonna be a mix of canon stuff and then what I think should've happened. Probably more of what I think should have happened. The plot is going to get more canon-divergent than the synopsis sounds I promise.

Summary
The first time it happens, Will classifies it as a little accident.
When he wakes, the morning sun is burning through the window onto their faces, and Mike’s cursing as he stands to close the curtains, stumbling all the way.
“Scoot over,” he grumbles, voice dry, and for a second Will can’t do anything other than sigh like a lovesick idiot. It’s a second too late for Mike, because he grumbles more words Will doesn’t catch under his breath and then physically pushes Will towards the wall to lay beside him, arm over Will’s middle. A second of silence passes, then Mike sighs, only to whine: “Fuck, my head hurts.”
Will can’t help it: he breaks down laughing, much to Mike’s offense.

“I could - show you…if you want.”
What the fuck.
Will guesses the shock must be obvious enough on his face that Mike feels he has to explain himself.
“So, you know, like - when you find someone you actually want to kiss, you'll know what it's like and you won't have to be as scared.” Mike’s eyes are frantic again and he’s slowly retracting the hand anchoring Will to the bed.
With panic coursing through his body, desperate not to screw his chance up, he catches Mike’s retreating hand with his own. Mike stares at their interlaced fingers, his eyebrows disappearing behind his bangs in shock.
”I-,” Will gets cut off. Mike was never really the patient one.
“You can just pretend I’m a girl, if you want.” His voice comes out strangled, nervous.
Or
Mike kisses Will, Will kisses Mike, and they don't talk about it. Queue a secret situationship and pointless fighting.

Summary
At first, Mike was unsure how to approach him when he got like this. But they’ve been living together for months now, never further than five feet apart in their dorm beds, so Mike’s learned what works and what doesn’t.
It works when he wakes Will like this, with gentle hands and words, telling him he’s safe. It works when he climbs into Will’s warm bed, turning him on his side and curling up against his back, an arm over his waist and his cheek pressed against his shoulder. They lie together like that until Will’s hiccupping gasps soften into steady breaths, until Mike feels him go limp in his arms and he knows he’s fallen back asleep. It always works.
or: Will has nightmares and Mike is the only one who can console him. Not even Will's boyfriend can. Mike takes great pride in this fact.
