Summary
A much needed conversation between Carmen and Sydney, post 3x10.
Someone is making coffee in Carmen’s kitchen when he wakes with a start. He looks over to the alarm clock and it’s midnight. A reasonable time for him to be up, maybe. Somewhere in his sleep-addled brain, he knows who’s here but the answer is nestled between the drowsiness and his never-ending headache. Not in much of a rush to figure it all out, he rolls over onto his back, his dress shirt wrinkled to hell, a ball of emotion gnawing at him in that spot right below his ribs. A familiar ache that sends him into his head.
Carmen doesn’t think it’d be much of a stretch to think everything’s gone to shit.

Sydney thinks that if she found out she was pregnant a little earlier she probably wouldn’t have gone through with it. Like, if she found out before her landlord changed the locks on her apartment, or before the bank sent her all those red letters, or before the pasta dried up, she’d probably have just taken herself to Planned Parenthood, popped the pills and charged it to the game. But as it is, the two blue lines appear on the stick during the worst months of her life, the first months of the pandemic when she’s unemployed and shit scared that her dad is going to get coronavirus and die. And when she sees them, she just thinks: well, this might as well happen. She was a disappointment before. What’s one more thing?
Before she meets Carmy, Sydney has a baby.

“What do you want, Mei Mei?” Satoru asks straight away, because he’s never been one to beat around the bush.
“The university’s charity organization has decided to set up a kissing booth to raise money for this year’s donation goal, and I’ve been tasked with recruiting the lucky volunteers,” Mei Mei says as she places her hand on the back of Suguru’s chair, her gaze as graciously calculating as always. “I thought you might be interested.”
“I am afraid I must refuse,” Suguru replies, maintaining a courteous tone of voice, because there’s no universe in which he’d voluntarily subject himself to such a thing.
“Okay,” Satoru retorts at the exact same moment, and every single thought in Suguru’s head comes to a standstill.
Or: When Satoru agrees to volunteer at their University's kissing booth charity event Suguru is forced to come to terms with how he actually feels about his best friend.
