“I’ll see you again tomorrow night, yeah?”
If Nat didn’t know better, he could’ve sworn that he heard the sound of hopefulness to Lottie’s otherwise innocent question. But maybe that was just wishful thinking, another selfish thought he should tuck away where no one else could find it.
He nodded, grinning just beyond the bottom of the helmet. Lottie didn’t need to see it anyway, she knew.
“I wouldn’t miss it.”
“Sweet, I’m looking forward to it then…”

Summary
The smile on Lottie’s face is teasing, like she knows something Nat doesn’t, or like she’s undressing Nat with her eyes. But that’s just her smile. It’s the same smile she’s had on her face all night. Then again, when Nat thinks back on the night, all the way up to that hallway backstage, she can’t remember a time when Lottie wasn’t looking at her. Yet Nat doesn’t think she minds it.

Summary
Lottie narrows her eyes. “You okay?” she asks.
“Fine, yeah, I just think God might be punishing me,” Natalie says, wiping her mouth, eyes watering as she sits up straight and looks down bitterly at the beer.
“God doesn’t really punish people anymore,” Lottie says. “That’s old testament stuff.”
Natalie is maybe (probably) possessed, which is really interfering with her plans to get a record deal by the end of this tour. Good thing the girl in the front row of all her shows knows a thing or two about demonology.

Summary
A week after returning from their Nationals tournament, the yellowjackets are trapped at school when a mysterious lockdown is issued across the state of New Jersey. After days of growing anxious in the school with no answers, a small group decides to break their lockdown to go and search for a missing teammate.
But when a crowd of cannibalistic strangers suddenly attacks the school, they are forced instead to fight for their lives, their school, and each other. But the initial outbreak is only the beginning.
Those unfortunate enough to survive quickly learn the horrors have barely begun. As the world burns down around them, they will have to work together to survive a relentless onslaught of the living dead.
And when it becomes clear that the fight will never end, they have to start creating their own rules to adapt to their new harsh environment while trying to build a better world than they lost. But the echoes of the lost world may prove too powerful to overcome, and the monsters populating the new world are hungry.
Invasive Species blends action and horror to create suspenseful setpieces in a story about the costs of survival, and the moments in between that make life worth living.

“Don’t be sorry,” Natalie murmurs, her hands still outstretched but a bit closer to her own body now, growing confident that Lottie can hold her own as long as the brick remains sedentary. “You don’t remember me, do you?”
The corner of Lottie’s mouth turns upwards in the aftermath of a sick and twisted joke. Salt pricks at her eyes like fine-point needles. She meets Natalie’s gaze, her own leaning body making the two of them equal height. She smiles sadly.
