“I asked you first.” Her voice came out a mere squeak. It would have been adorable under any other circumstance.

“Alright.” He bit out. “I followed you here.”
“You had no right.”
“I had every right!” Colin snapped instantly. How dare she try to make it out that he was in the wrong for worrying about her? “I thought you might be in danger, of course I was going to-”
“What? Protect me?” Penelope cut him off, voice acidic in a way he had never heard before. “I assure you, I do not need it.”
He was about to argue, when something else caught his attention. “What is that in your hand?”
She followed his gaze, and all of her venom seemingly disappeared as her skin paled. “It is nothing.”
What if Colin found out about Whistledown before the carriage?
