“Fiyero,” she says, her voice rising as she takes in his appearance, “What happened?”
He looks down at himself and frowns, finally forced to admit the severity of the damage. His left arm has a long rip down its side, and his hand is hanging from his arm by literal threads. Straw explodes from the large hole in his chest, and he thinks he may be much thinner than he was an hour or so ago.

Paladin Mike’s jaw tightened. “I do not own him,” he said immediately. “He is—” He stopped, swallowing. His eyes went back to Will softening, and that softness made Mike hate him even more. He could recognize the look, and saw it mirrored in his own eyes countless times.

“He is the Light. By your oath, I am bound to him. My liege.” He bowed his head slightly toward Will, his mouth wrapped around the word like it was a prayer. “My cleric.” He said after, softer.
“Oh my god.” Will flushed, impossibly. “That is crazy. He is actually crazy."
Max, who had been standing with her arms crossed behind them, muttered, “Jesus Christ,” under her breath.
Mike Wheeler is going to explode, because there is an alternate, armoured version of him, following Will Byers around like he belonged to him.

“Sit behind me,” Elphaba instructs, gesturing to her broom. She expects hesitation, expects that Fiyero will question his own safety, or the prudence of being in close proximity to the Witch. She half expects that he will come to his senses and change his mind entirely, find a way to return to the charmed Palace life he’s been leading.
Instead he does exactly as told, the broom dipping only slightly before the magic adjusts to accommodate his added weight. “Can I hold onto you?”
“Probably should, if you don’t want to fall off,” she agrees, catching her breath when he immediately wraps both arms around her waist.
“Go,” he says firmly, close enough that his breath tickles her ear.

She looked suddenly small to him: too young for the weight she carried, too exhausted by the sins of Oz that her soul seemed to carry.
Even so, the quiet strength in her posture hadn’t dimmed; she was still brave in that strong, unyielding way that made something deep and restless in Fiyero ache desperately to reach for her.
That feeling, at least, was familiar.
