Fliss whipped her head back around to stare at the brick wall. It didn’t matter how many times she looked at it, the words on the poster in front of her refused to sink in. The commotion in her periphery took priority over whichever fine Liquidis establishment was trying to advertise to passerby in the market square. The busy stall to her left and its assortment of attendants were much more eye-catching, but she was trying not to stare. There was yelling and cheering and lots of liquid pouring. A liquid she’d never laid eyes on before.
She would count to five in her head again, one… two… three…

The bizarre animal hybrids and seemingly sentient household objects were hard enough to figure out what to do with, but the time he opened up a box filled with pressurized viscous liquid it had taken him a week to get the yellow-green stains out of his bedspread and carpet. The items weren’t the major appeal of these gifts, as he’d taken to calling them. The main draw was what happened when he took the little disc out of the strangely unharmed paper envelope taped to the bottom and set it on his bed in front of him, pressing play.

There's so many questions, and Dan just can't find the answers! Unless...

William shook his head in denial.

“We thought we’d celebrate,” William says, and his voice is just as shaky as his smile.
Ashe furrows his brow. “Celebrate?”
“Your birthday,” Vyncent says. “You definitely missed one while you were, like, possessed or whatever, so we thought we’d make up for it.”
“We never got to celebrate it together,” Dakota says. “So we thought we’d have a birthday party!”
Ashe splutters. “A party?” He is not ready for a fucking party, he’s never even been to one in his life, what should he wear—
“Not a real party!” William interjects, like he sensed Ashe’s anxiety. “Just the four of us. We’re only calling it a party because, I don’t know, that’s what you do on birthdays, yeah?”

After being freed from the Trickster's grasp, Ashe finds it hard to have the energy to do anything after losing a full year of his life. Luckily, the rest of the Prime Defenders have no problem dragging him out of the house and showing him how to live again.

William wanted to give himself some time to think.
He had a little less than a month before school started. On the last day of summer, if he was still unsure about this whole superhero thing, then he was going to pack his bags, and leave for Deadwood first thing in the morning.

“Summer's almost over- after tomorrow, we're not going to get to stay out all night, and-” Dakota paused, like he was struggling to come up with the words, “We can't- have fun, after tomorrow.”
William didn’t feel the need to remind him that he still had weekends, and breaks to look forward to. He also didn't have the heart to tell him that he probably wouldn't be there with him.
“So?”
“So?” Dakota repeated, “Let's have some fun tonight.”
