It's been nine months since Steve dragged Eddie's bleeding body out of the Upside Down after he nearly became demobat chow, eight months since he was finally able to walk around without assistance, and seven months since Steve kissed him for the first time out at the quarry. Their relationship is everything Eddie didn't know he could have and even though they keep it a secret, Eddie is not complaining and neither is Steve.

Summary
Steve’s door is still cracked open, but he opens the window anyway. Cool air rushes into the room, along with the general smell of Eddie: cigarette smoke, cheap body spray, and maybe just a little bit of weed. If Steve gets butterflies just from that, he’ll never admit to it.
“What the hell are you doing?” he whispers.
“What do you think? Rescuing the princess from her tower.”
Steve stares.
Eddie grins. “Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair.”
Steve’s stare moves into glaring territory.
“Okay, seriously, you gotta let me in. My hands are going numb, man. If I fall through this window, someone is going to call the police and I’m for sure gonna get arrested.”
Or: Once upon a time, Steve climbed up to Nancy’s window to sneak in behind her parents’ back. He wasn’t expecting Eddie to do the same for him.

Summary
That’s how Eddie had found Steve ten or so minutes later, leaning against the counter with a blue popsicle in his mouth. Eddie wasn’t fully dressed yet, still tugging his t-shirt over his head and buckling his belt. He’d frozen when he saw Steve.
“It’s nine in the morning,” Eddie said.
Steve shrugged. “And it’s hot. There a law against eating popsicles before noon that I don’t know about?”
“It’s nine in the morning,” Eddie repeated, sounding aggrieved. “It’s way too fucking early for this.”
(It’s summer in Hawkins. Steve and Eddie are dating. They’re doing a bad job of keeping it secret.)

Summary
It was getting beyond ridiculous now. And if no one else wanted to help, then Dustin would take it upon himself.
Steve had helped him get his first girlfriend. He’d put his body between Dustin and the demodogs in the tunnels even though he was half conscious and fully concussed. He’d helped them escape from torture and taken the blows in their place. He’d kept silent about his bites while they strategized in Max’s trailer. He’d been with them through almost everything. The only thing he’d missed was that first year but even then he was defending Nancy and Jonathan.
He wanted his brother to be happy.
OR
Dustin thinks Steve would be so much happier if he got back together with Nancy again. So he conspires to make that happen. But there's some variables he hadn't considered.
