“Eddie,” Buck stage-whispers, “you’re not asleep yet, right?”
“No,” Eddie grumbles, flicking on the light when Buck bumps heavily into something and swears. “But I could’ve been.”
“Eddie, Eddie,” Buck sings breathily, shucking his trousers and clambering onto the bed in just his boxers and a button-down shirt. “Why is there only one bed?”
“Um,” Eddie draws the comforter up to his chin, as if he can shield himself from the half-naked—oh, three-quarters naked, he’s pulling off his shirt now—Buck with just a duvet.

Mel blinks. He certainly doesn’t look like he’s having a stroke.
“Frank, why would we move in together?”
“I thought it might be nice,” he shrugs here, acting nonchalant even though Mel can see the tension in his jaw. “To take that next step in our relationship.”
“Frank, what are you talking about? We’re not in a relationship?”
At this, Frank’s frown deepens before widening into a frustrated half smile. “Uh, yes we are? We’ve been dating for nine months?”

Summary
Buck looks at him like he’s the whole damn horizon, and it’s the kind of exposure Eddie’s spent a lifetime wanting and dodging in equal measure.
“Don’t stare,” he mutters, forearm thrown over his face, like that could hide the flush clawing up his cheeks.
Buck’s laughter is soft, delighted.
“Try and stop me.”His palms slide up Eddie’s thighs. The heat follows, tethered to every place he touches. He settles between Eddie’s legs like he owns the place, palms dragging up, up, up, until Eddie’s stomach jumps under the touch.
“You think I’m looking away from this? Not a chance.” Buck says, his voice warm, smug, boyish. “Gonna stare all I want. Gonna touch you. Kiss you.”
Eddie risks a peek down.
Realizes right away it’s a mistake.
Huge mistake.Or: Buck turns a simple hand job into an emotionally life-altering event and Eddie has no defenses prepared.

Summary
“So we’re into dudes now?”
Eddie tries not to let the amusement show on his face as he watches this weird version of Buck size him up. It’s reminiscent of their first meeting. Buck had acted like a complete idiot (he’d thought it was because he was threatened, but years later Buck will now finally admit it was because he wanted to fuck Eddie so bad it made him stupid). He’s got that same bratty look and attitude now.
“We’ve always been into guys, you just haven’t realized it yet.” Buck (3.0? Or is it 4.0 now?) says. Eddie’s not sure what model they’ve upgraded to at this point, but that doesn’t matter. His Buck, current-Buck, husband-Buck is speaking.
“Are you gay?” 1.0—that’s what Eddie’s taken to calling him in his mind—asks, a disgruntled look on his face. He’s actually quite cute. Smaller and leaner than the Buck Eddie first met when he started at the 118, he kind of reminds Eddie of a puppy. “Because I’m sure I don’t have to tell you this,” he waggles his eyebrows obnoxiously. “I really like women.”
“Bi.” Buck (husband-Buck) corrects, he’s got his arms crossed over his chest, defensive.

Summary
Buck’s not going to let Eddie just hide himself away.
He knows Eddie’s in mourning for Christopher, he knows he’s struggling with his actions and everything that happened because of them.
But Buck’s not going to let him drown in his misery and depression. There’s no way he’s going to let him go through this alone, even though Eddie will push back - Buck knows him, and he will push - but he’s going to keep pushing too. He’s not going to let Eddie isolate himself.
So, Operation: Keep Eddie Diaz Busy and Annoyed has started.
Or, the one where Buck forces Eddie to keep busy while Chris is gone, but ends up catching a bad case of The Feelings in the middle of Eddie learning to love pickling things to irritate Chim and charming old ladies through square dancing.
