    The carpet is fraying, she can see it up closer now, loose ends looking like they’ve committed a horrible suicide. She blinks once, twice, Charley’s gaze a palpable presence behind her. “I’m just getting used to what it feels like to be something to someone again.” 

    “And… what does that - mean?” 

    Rhonda slides her feet towards the bottom of her thighs, knees to chest, chin tucking in the curve of them. “It means me and Quinn are… we are,” she squints, the words catching in the back of her throat, a breath stuttering around it, “going steady.”

    A pause. Thick and waiting and insufferable. Rhonda feels the silence wrap around her ribs like a vice, curling violently inward. 

    or, maybe dating isn't as easy at Rhonda thought it'd be.
