Three things were known for certain about Katsuki Yuuri: his unbeatable stamina that was envied by skaters across divisions, his subpar and inconsistent execution of jumps in competition, and - despite his jumps - his ability to create music and emotion with his body alone. However, what remained a mystery within the skating community, with the exception of those closest to him, was Yuuri's secondary status.
So when the anxious scent of rotting apples reached Viktor Nikiforov from across the rink as a trembling Katsuki Yuuri glided onto the ice for his free skate at the Grand Prix Final, Viktor found that he couldn't look away.

“Help!” the omega said in a rush, and his panicked expression along with his scent made the hairs on Yuuri’s arms stand on end. “My ex-boyfriend is here, please scent me before he tries to do something towards me."
Yuuri’s mind screeched to a halt, and he blinked, trying to take in what the omega was saying. Scenting was something that was usually only done with a partner. Yuuri had never scented anyone before in his life, and the thought of doing it with someone he didn’t know felt odd, but the omega looked incredibly stressed.
“Sorry,” the omega said, and he casted his eyes down. “I know it’s a bit much but he’ll never let up if he sees I’m here alone.” He looked up to meet Yuuri’s gaze again, and Yuuri felt his own resolve crack in an instant by the panicked expression on his face.

He has three omegas clustered to his side, each of them dripping with jewelry and designer clothing, hanging on his every word like it’s the height of wit. They laugh in chorus.

It’s Tuesday, which has become the best/worst part of Yuuri’s week. On Monday night he agonizes, wondering if he should end this out of pure self-preservation, even though he’s self-aware enough to know that it’s way too late for that.
An arrangement, that’s all. A simple exchange. Yuuri’s fuzzy on the details, because he was very drunk at the time they had the initial conversation, but it’s worked out so far. For the past two months, the prettiest and most talented man in their college picks Yuuri up from his evening economics lecture, shares a meal with him at the student lounge, and then fucks Yuuri platonically and quite satisfyingly in his off-campus apartment, often doggystyle on the couch.
The orgasms are great! At least for Yuuri (and he hopes for Viktor as well, since he keeps coming back).
In a purely one-sided, tragic twist of fate, Yuuri enjoys spending time with Viktor even more than the mutually-beneficial orgasms. He’s smart and sweet, and a great conversationalist. He likes ballet and poodles, just like Yuuri. He’s heart-stoppingly beautiful.

From the rinks of Yubileyny Sports Palace in St Petersburg to the bustling city of Osaka and quieter Michigan suburbs, Yuuri chases his dream of skating against his idol and improbable best friend, getting tripped up along the way because growing up is never easy and it's even harder as an elite athlete with the eyes of a nation watching. But it'll all be fine as long as Yuuri doesn't do something stupid like fall in love with Viktor. Right? Right.
(It occurred to me that I should say that the title is not a typo. It's purposely "bear" as in "to carry".)
