Summary
Heffron’s gaze is fixed on the bracelet, smile softer than Eugene’s ever seen it.
“The other guys don’t get it, of course. Most of ‘em, anyway. If it ain’t the fact about me bringing it on the road with us, it’s ‘cause they think it’s stupid of me to think I’d ever find who I’m looking for on the line. Should’ve given it to a girl in Aldbourne, or even Eindhoven at the latest, they tell me, ain’t no one to court after that. Ha! I’ll show ‘em.”
Eugene hums. He can’t say that he understands Heffron’s line of thinking either, can’t comprehend the other’s confidence that what he’s set on will really come to fruition, but he never had to anyway. It’s not for me to understand, he thinks, willing himself to resist the hope that threatens to take shape in a small crevice at the back of his mind.
“It’s beautiful, Heffron,” he says, and whether he’s talking about the courting bracelet around the other’s wrist, or the steadfast optimism in the Alpha’s heart, he’s not sure.
Heffron looks up, and their eyes lock.
“Sure is, huh?” Heffron whispers, like it’s a secret just between the two of them.

Summary
Here’s the situation: Euijoo is about a hundred and one percent sure he’s got a crush on his best friend. He’s not certain when exactly he landed himself in this predicament, but he’s not going to pretend he doesn’t know why he’s fallen for Nicholas specifically.
Nicholas is, well, Nicholas. He’s driven, passionate, and unabashedly himself. He’s fierce on stage and a menace when he wants to be, but so painfully soft around the people he cares about. Euijoo likes it all - the relentless teasing, the unrestrained laughter, the secret smiles, the thoughtful gifts.
So, falling for Nicholas turns out to be an easy thing to accept. The issue here is what Euijoo’s going to do about it.

He stares at the printed-out screenshot, studies it like he’s missing some major part, eyes skipping past some vital information in their feverish scanning. Reads it again and again. He isn’t missing anything, he’s fairly certain. Euijoo has booked them a getaway for a few days, over Nicholas’s birthday. Just the two of them.

Summary
Lan Zhan watches in awe as Jiang Cheng, within seconds, gracefully tugs the closed fan out of Nie Huaisang’s hand and strikes it at the very center of Wei Wuxian’s forehead before returning it to the unmoved fist all without looking up from the scroll he’s reading. Wei Wuxian makes a small whine and rubs at the reddened skin but does not otherwise continue with his distractions.
He licks his lips and returns to his calligraphy lest he thinks something untoward. Like what it would be like to fall asleep facing Jiang Cheng.
(The first friend that Lan Zhan makes—and subsequently falls in love with—he doesn’t meet until his seventeenth year, when a beautiful boy with a storm brewing beneath his skin politely tells him to fuck off.)
