“Kaa-san?” A squeaky boyish voice asks. His voice is a bit raspy from sleep, and his eyes are filled with tears and fear, having been startled by the sounds of his mother’s sobbing.
“Giyuu…” The woman, Tomioka Kotoha, sighs in relief at seeing just her second child rather than her husband. “What are you doing up so late?”
“‘Tako nee-san’s snoring woke me up…” his words slur slightly from sleepiness, “then I heard you crying.”
OR
Tomioka Giyuu finds his mother sobbing in her bedroom, unaware that after he falls back to sleep he will never see her again.
