They join their friends, enveloped into the circle of dancing, happy bodies, and Shauna forgets about anything for else for a while. Song after song, she spins with Lottie, faux-waltzes with Van, jumps around with Laura Lee, even allows Nat to land a playful slap on her ass to the collective whooping of their friends. Jackie pretends to pout about it until Shauna takes her face—her beautiful, perfect face—between her hands and kisses her soundly enough for her breath to hitch, for the rest of the group to wolf-whistle and hoot and cheer. When she pulls back, Jackie’s eyes are glazed, and Shauna grins, all teeth.
Briefly, in the back of her mind, Shauna wonders what she did to deserve this: this night, her friends, Jackie. Maybe, in a past life, she was one of those tragic Saints she used to adore. Maybe she saved the world.
Maybe you should stop being so goddamn corny, Shipman, she thinks wryly, and lets the thought float away.

The landlord sighs and flips over the white paper in her hand. “Well, as you would have read, you can’t get the discount on rent, then. It’s for married couples only.”
“The discount?” Shauna murmurs, the zeros on her student debt screaming at her in her head. “How much?”
“Half the advertised rent price.”
Oh. Shauna thinks, then gulps.

“I was only joking,” She blurts out, symptomatic of disconnect between mouth and brain. “We are. A married couple—yeah. Me and Jackie are married.”
Or, an AU where Shauna suddenly realises there are a few benefits to people mistaking her and her roommate/long-term best friend Jackie for a married couple, which Jackie would totally understand her indulging in, right? If only she told Jackie what she was telling people about them, that is.
