    Summary

“Who do we have the pleasure of speaking with?” Edwin asked, formal as ever, even when addressing a woodland creature in a magical clearing.

“The Fox Queen,” the fox said.

Charles sighed softly and Crystal knew exactly what he was thinking: The last thing they needed was more animal royalty.

Or: The Dead Boy Detective Agency is back in London, back to solving cases, back to normal. Or as normal as it can get after Port Townsend upended their afterlives. In the middle of routine casework they discover that all across London, ghost children are going missing—vanished into thin air as if they never existed. If that weren’t enough trouble, rumors begin to spread around the Night Market that a group of Americans is looking for a ghost who has escaped hell.

    Summary

Edwin leaps at the diversion, grateful for anything that prevents him from thinking too deeply about the implications of the Cat King’s words. “And why are you in London to begin with?”

“Maybe I just wanted to see the Trafalgar Square lions,” the Cat King shrugs. “Although, now that I’ve seen them, are they really that much more impressive than the New York Library lions?” He weighs his head so-so. “Debatable.”

Charles growls, giving his best lion impression himself. “Why. Are. You. Here.”

“Alright, alright,” the Cat King relents. “So impatient. I thought the British enjoyed making small talk. Or is that just when it’s about the weather?” He makes his way back to the desk. “I have a case for you.”

    Summary

“That about did it,” Edwin says, patting himself down and straightening his bowtie. “Now, if you’re ready, I suggest we find a mirror and-“

“Did you just cough up a flower?” Charles interrupts. Flower, perhaps, is a slight exaggeration. It’s more like a petal, red and incredibly out of place here on the shore.

Edwin clears his throat, but this time no petals follow. “Certainly it’s nothing to worry about.”

Or: Edwin is suffering from a weird curse, but for some reason, he's refusing Charles' help. Charles is trying his best to fix it anyway, but Edwin is being oddly secretive about the whole thing.

    Summary

There were a lot of reasons why Charles Rowland had changed schools. His suffering grades, constant reprimands over being out of dress code and the school’s growing suspicions about his home life were only some of the reasons why Charles’ mother enrolled him in boarding school for sixth form.

There was really only one problem… well two problems, maybe three.

    ------------

When Cricket-star Charles transfers to St. Hilarion's, he urgently needs a Latin tutor. Enter Edwin Payne, a language genius but not very popular. As the two become friends, the past rears its head in ugly ways. Can the two navigate such a new, odd-couple friendship in the face of their pasts? And what happens if that friendship starts to blossom into more?

    Summary

“For someone who claims not to like thinking,” Edwin says, raising an eyebrow, “you do a remarkably good job of it.”

Charles laughs. “Tell that to my old teachers, mate.”

“If they disagree, then they can’t be very qualified.” Edwin says this simply, like it’s just a fact of life. Like it’s plainly obvious that if anyone thinks Charles is stupid, it’s they who are at fault.

Or: Charles grew up poor and is likely to stay that away, his job at the magic store notwithstanding. By the time he meets Edwin, he's decided that he wants a new life. In between figuring out what's up with the mysterious wish-granting pigeons, and whether he can go to the Royal Ball, Edwin makes him want to take a chance on being happy as well.
