Summary
Kei and Rion, fugitives from the assassin world, share a brief, peaceful moment on a beach during their escape. There, away from the chaos, they talk about life, cats, and what it means to be seen and loved. Rion draws an X in the sand symbolizing their connection and destiny and makes Kei promise to find her again in another life. That sunset becomes their last together.
Years later, Kei Uzuki—now known as Slur/X—has become a cold, vengeful assassin. After massacring the JAA assassins/staffs who wronged him, he’s haunted by memories of Rion. While wandering the city, he saves two stray white cats — one injured, one young — and feels Rion’s presence through them. Her old words echo: that white cats appear to souls they trust. Helping the cats stirs something long buried within him: compassion and warmth. He brings them to safety, tending to them as if fulfilling a promise he once made to her.
