“What’s there to talk about?!” Hollander scoffed, shaking his head. “You’re playing for my fucking team!”
“I know.”
“Why did you have to go and get traded?! You realise we’re going to have to see each other every day from now on, and play together, and-”
“Yes,” Ilya interrupted. He didn’t want to know how long Hollander’s list was. “I know.”
Hollander took a deep breath. “Okay, listen,” he said. “Just so we’re clear - we don’t know each other outside of playing against each other, right?”
“Right.”
“And we can’t- can’t hook up anymore.”

OR: Ilya gets traded to Montreal in October 2014. He's lonely, and angry, and he misses Boston. He doesn't know if it helps that Hollander is there or not.

And Ilya (who had spent years being careless but was trying to be careful and worthy) in that moment decided that if they were doing this, then they were doing it properly. Because they're not lovers. Not after last night, when Ilya’s “I could marry Svetlana” had caused Shane Hollander looked at him like he’d rather commit a murder-suicide than let him go... and proposed.

Shane swore as he saw the contact and swiped the call button. “What the fuck Rozanov.”
A few seconds passed before a female voice cracked on the line. “Jane?”
Cold dread flooded Shane’s insides. He fought the urge to hang up, but he didn’t reply either.
“Listen. Okay, listen” She said with an accent like Ilya’s, and a quiver in her voice. “There’s been an accident. Ilya-.” She falters on his name. “He’s in a bad way, I don’t—know anybody in Montreal. I think maybe, uh. I don’t know what to do, I know about you and Ilya and I think you should be here. I need to not be the only one Ilya knows here.”
Shane stopped existing for a few minutes before something kicked in and he robotically replied to the voice. “Where is he?”
Ilya is gravely injured in a car accident in Montreal. Svetlana and Shane have to be there for each other as his life hangs in the balance.
