“You’ve been quiet tonight, Haasy,” Wyatt said then, turning to him with a raised eyebrow. “Everything alright?”
Before Luca could answer, Ilya had reached them and grinned. “He’s been staring at his phone all night. Who is it? You have a crush on someone then?” His tone was light and playful, but Luca’s face still heated. Ilya had said someone, keeping it gender-neutral without any extra effort.
“No,” Luca said, just a little too quickly. “Just a friend from school. He’s in Ottawa at the moment.”
Ilya’s expression shifted and he was starting to look delighted in a way that meant he was trying to figure something out. Given that they were talking about relationships, Luca knew exactly what Ilya was trying to figure out.
He still remembered last season when he confided in Ilya that he found relationships hard and that he didn’t know how to meet someone. And he knew, Luca knew that the way he had worded that admission had left room for interpretation on his sexuality.
