She was pretty sure Vi wanted her already, there were more than enough hints in the way Vi flirted back, the glances she stole. Caitlyn just needed irrefutable evidence. A kiss, a confession.
“She’s coming on the beach trip, right?”
“Yes. She’s bringing Jinx.”
The few remaining kernels of popcorn in Jayce’s bowl clattered as he swirled his bowl. “Okay, so, if you haven’t seduced her by then, confess your feelings on the beach. It’s romantic.”
Caitlyn tapped her fingers against the soft fabric of her couch as she considered. She and Vi were dangerously close to becoming the overused stereotype of sapphics stuck in the friendzone, both too scared to initiate anything else. Usually in those situations, the people involved hid their feelings out of a fear of reciprocation, but Vi wasn’t subtle enough for Caitlyn to think her attraction wasn’t mutual. Vi’s obviousness was adorable. And frustrating, because she wasn’t doing anything about it.
“That’s… actually not a terrible idea.”

Summary
Late one night, Caitlyn and Vi both end up in the library cramming for exams. When Caitlyn's best friend, Jayce, doesn't answer his phone to be Caitlyn's escort across campus in the dark, Vi offers to walk Caitlyn to her car.
An insane idea to destress together during a spontaneous and very practical one-night-stand turns into many more nights, studying and de-stressing as tutors-with-benefits.
Between Caitlyn's insane Pre-Law class schedule and Vi's commitments to her Engineering degree and her captaincy of the rugby team - and their historic Runeterra University Rugby Championship (RURC) run - Caitlyn and Vi discover that they have a lot more in common than being stressed out of their minds and insanely attracted to each other.
Over the course of the school year, they fall in deeper and deeper, finding out in real time that, sometimes, true love can come from anywhere - even as unlikely a place as the Pilt U library at one o'clock in the morning.

“This is yours?” she pokes it with the toe of her fucked up shoe. Good material, nice and rigid. The bin at the rec centre has a few, but they’re these lumpy things the kids like to smack each other with rather than kick.
The girl looks around. It should read as mocking- it comes across completely genuine. “There’s no one else here.”
“What’s in it for me?”
“I’ll… leave you alone?”
Vi smothers the urge to grin.
She groans instead, gets to her feet, and- outside part, right?- kicks the ball with the broad side of her foot. It gets the job done. Vi blinks, and the girl has the ball snug under her cleat. Huh.
“That was a good kick,” she says with the tiniest quirk of her lip, like she couldn’t believe it.
Vi is sixteen, and furious about it. Her sister's a target for Zaun High's bottom of the barrel, her city is given less grace than a dying roadside animal, and beyond being angry about these two specific things- she has nothing going on.
But one day, a chance escape to Zaun park's dingy soccer field, somehow, changes everything- and it all starts with a girl who really shouldn't be here.
