He can only make out his eyes and up from the opening of the wrap-up, but even despite the dimmer light due to unopened curtains, Kabru can see how red and sweaty his forehead is. A fever. But, given the sweet, cloying scent even he can smell, it’s not just that.
A few days. He’d accounted for a few days early. A few weeks early is a completely separate matter.
Or, in which an unexpected and unsafe heat leads to an outcome Kabru hadn't seen coming.

“This your way of apologizin’?” Zanka asked, tone dry.
Rudo stiffened. “It’s not an apology.”
Zanka looked up, half a smirk playing at his lips again. “Sure feels like one.”
“I said it ain’t!” Rudo barked, louder than intended.
Zanka winced slightly from the noise but didn’t break eye contact.
Rudo looked away again, this time toward the cracked ceiling tiles.
There was a beat of quiet.
Then Zanka said, almost like he was talking to himself, “…I like my flowers red.”
Rudo scowled. “Then give it back.”
Zanka didn’t.
“…Nah. I’ll keep it.”

“Are you sure ya want to do this?” Zanka asked. Rudo nodded his head.
“Listen— I don’t want to pressure ya into anything you don’t want to do, so if yer doing this because you think I want—“
“No! I— I want to try with you.” Rudo’s voice rose in volume as his fists cletched on his knees. “Please.” he begged, lifting his face up to look at Zanka with those eyes. The ones that were wide and innocent, filled with excitement when kissing, the ones he couldn’t say no to.
What would they look like when they were filled with ecstasy? Zanka wanted to know. But was Rudo truly ready?
With a heavy sigh, Zanka brushed his hand through his hair, trying to let the tension fall from his shoulders but failing to do so. If the brat really wanted to, he couldn’t say no. Despite what people said to him being a stuck up noble (not that he was one anymore, the noble part at least), he was a softie for the ones he loved (read: Rudo), but never in a million years would he ever admit it.
“Fine but if anything, and I mean anything that makes you uncomfortable, ya goin’ to tell me straight away. Alright?” He had phrased it as a question, but it was more of a demand.

It’s not like there’s a handbook on how to be a good mentor, no ancient set of rules carved in stone for future generations to follow. No one teaches you how to do it. You just go with your gut and try to do what feels right.
There are no right answers.
And yet, Zanka was pretty damn sure that fucking your trainee on regular basis was definitely not part of the job description.
