“I didn’t break the cup.” He said more intently, picturing the mug whole and unbroken, the radio station logo that was plastered on the side uncracked.
And as he willed it, it was.
He blinked and the glass was gone like it had never been there, and there was a whole coffee mug sitting on the table in front of him when he looked down. It was sitting on the table like it had never left, the wet pool of cold coffee from before was gone and in its place was a rich brown cup of coffee, steaming lightly in the nighttime chill.
“What the fuck?” Someone said, disbelief coloring their tone and all Mike could do was stare downwards, a fresh wave of blood leaking from his nose.
“I didn't break the cup.” He echoed himself emptily, words a tad disbelieving.
He looked up then, taking in the stunned and worried faces that were surrounding the table and by proxy, him.
He pressed his fingers to his nose, eyes slipping downwards to look at the wet red that stained his fingertips and looking back up.

While she hadn’t physically seen Will Byers since he was twelve years old, over to play some lame campaign Mike had organized, she had never stopped seeing in his face since. Missing posters. Photographs Jonathan had taken of him hung proudly on the Byers’ walls. In the obituary Karen had clipped out from the newspaper and left in the end table next to the couch.
Will Byers was dead. It had been a simple fact for almost three years now.

“I’ve seen what you’ve done,” Mike says, anger cutting through the fear now. “You destroyed my home. You killed kids. Kidnapped them, you break them.”
Vecna stops in front of him.
“And I get the feeling you only care about one kid in particular,” his tone is never-changing, he’s calm, “Do you ever stop to wonder why I took him that night? Why didn’t I take you?”
Or: the one where Vecna takes Mike instead of Holly, and he is the one who, with Max's help, has to venture through painful memories to find the exit.

Summary
Immediately post-Season 4, the gang are catching up and reuniting at Hopper's old cabin. Mike, who's been on the edge of a panic attack for the past few days, excuses himself to get some 'fresh air'- unbeknownst to anyone but Joyce, who still isn't fully up-to-date on the Vecna situation. After about 30 minutes, the group notices his absence and are immediately concerned. They can't find Mike anywhere in the surrounding area, but they find the exact thing they were dreading; a small gate.
Mike finds himself in the Upside-Down, but the circumstances are strange. Vecna is nowhere to be seen and the area around him is completely barren. It's an elaborate plot to torment Mike with his greatest fears; forcing him to relive his own worst memories with his family and friends by his side.
How much could one kid have to hide, anyways?

Summary
