Summary
then:
“Found you.”“So you were looking for me?”
“of course not.”
The warm light of the setting sun painted Ilya in soft hues of orange and gold. He looked softer and more at peace; less torn apart than he had looked hours ago in the hotel bar.
“Oh, I looked up that word, uh, “compatible””
“What?”
“Compatible. I thought I knew what it meant, but I wanted to be sure.”
Shane looked at him in the golden light. He saw the false bravado, the slightly unsure tilt of his shoulders. The sound of gentle waves accompanied the realization of how well he truly knew Ilya Rozanov. How, since the very first time they met outside of the rink in Canada, he had spent his life learning Ilya Rozanov. Both on and off the ice, his expressions and mannerisms, the walls he put up, the loneliness he wielded like a weapon.
And Shane thought, with quiet devastation, that knowing Ilya Rozanov might be the proudest and most important achievement of his life.“Oh. And are you sure now?”
or: a rewrite of episode 5, where the boys are more emotional, more honest with themselves and finally talk.
