Summary
“I’m coming with you,” Will says immediately. “I’ll find a way. I won’t let you go alone.”
Mike’s expression hardens. For a split second, it looks like his breath gets stuck somewhere in his chest, his lungs refusing to move. His shoulders square, his posture going rigid beneath the armor as Will’s words sink in. But he isn’t angry, not really.
“No. You can’t.”
“You don’t get to decide that for me,” Will snaps, his grip tightening unconsciously at the edge of Mike’s armor.
“And you don’t get to make me weaker,” Mike fires back before he can stop himself.
or; Will panics the very moment Mike tells him that Vecna has returned; determined, Will wants to follow him into battle, only to discover that it is his bond with the paladin himself that prevents him from fighting at his side.

Summary
Will bites his lip and nods, looking down at his shoes again so Richie won't see how hard he's holding back a giddy smile.
Everybody in the party knows everything about him. Maybe it wouldn't be the worst thing to keep a secret from Mike for a little while.
It's kind of exciting. Sneaking in a boy Mike hates.
Will shakes his head, trying to clear Mike from it for the night. Only when he looks back up at Richie, Richie has this conspiratorial smile on his face, like maybe Will isn't the only one eager to piss off Mike Wheeler.
OR: the concept of Richie Tozier being Will Byers' dirty little secret and Mike Wheeler being so jealous he can't breathe. Byler endgame.

Summary
His stomach twists. Dustin is still talking to Stacey and looking content enough in their conversation, one that Mike doubts he'd be welcome to join. When he peers into the living room, he sees Max and Lucas and Will, all spinning each other around to the tune of whatever shitty song is playing and laughing loudly. Will is grinning, something wide and warm and beautifully happy, a grin that Mike hasn't seen directed his way in what feels like forever.
He looks back at Dustin, hands waving and eyes bright as he talks, Stacey smiling at him. At Max, gleeful. At Lucas, singing along to the music. At Will, head thrown back with a cackle.
It's a gut-wrenching feeling, realizing how unnecessary you've become to the people you love.

Mike braces himself. “And if I’m your Tammy, or whatever that means–” He breathes in. And he finally says it. “If Vecna knows that you have feelings for me, or had feelings for me, or whatever,” Each word is deliberate and Mike feels terrible about each one. This is so fucking hard, pressing on a bruise. “I need to know.” he finishes. “If that’s something he could use.”
Will is silent. Ashen. His words didn’t just land, it hit him. Straight and clean.
“Goddamnit, Will, I’m scared,” Mike says.

“Why are you touching him? You don’t own him.”
Will dropped his head into his hands. “Mike, oh my god—”
Paladin Mike’s jaw tightened. “I do not own him,” he said immediately. “He is—” He stopped, swallowing. His eyes went back to Will softening, and that softness made Mike hate him even more. He could recognize the look, and saw it mirrored in his own eyes countless times.

“He is the Light. By your oath, I am bound to him. My liege.” He bowed his head slightly toward Will, his mouth wrapped around the word like it was a prayer. “My cleric.” He said after, softer.
“Oh my god.” Will flushed, impossibly. “That is crazy. He is actually crazy."
Max, who had been standing with her arms crossed behind them, muttered, “Jesus Christ,” under her breath.
Mike Wheeler is going to explode, because there is an alternate, armoured version of him, following Will Byers around like he belonged to him.
