'A gift' said the Elves, 'being immortal would be great' say the mortal men - but Sam knew this wasn't true, being immortal is a fate worse than death.
Hobbits aren't meant to be immortal, yet Sam is. The Elves gave it to him saying it would be ''a gift, a reward for your hard work'' but if it was so special then why did he have it? Or why did Merry and Pippin not?
