Summary
Love wasn’t a word uttered in the gruelling plains of Number Twelve Grimmauld Place. The first time Regulus had heard his mother say it, short and perfunctory, was to his aunt, whose new dress had been spectacular and stupendous. Regulus, through the impressive deductive reasoning of a nine year old boy, had reasoned that it wasn’t ever thrown in their direction because he and Sirius were neither spectacular nor stupendous. Which felt wrong. Sirius spoke three languages by the age of eight, and could manipulate his surroundings easily, twisting a measly bit of fabric into a rather shoddy teddy bear that Regulus cherished until it was discarded by his mother.
Sirius was everything that Regulus was not, yet Walburga didn’t so much as curl her tongue around the syllable.
