When Christopher was born, Eddie’s entire life shifted to that single priority. In principle, it should have made decisions easy. All he needed to do was ask– what does Christopher need?– and focus on working out how to get that. Christopher was twelve by the time Eddie first got the insight that, maybe, he should have been taking his own needs into consideration as well. But because he’s stubborn, it took a few more years for the lesson to actually sink in.
OR: Chris is all grown up, Eddie gets dumped (again), and he realizes that he’s been making Buck wait long enough.

“Hey,” Buck says, in the hospital room after it’s all over. “Just so you know, I’m in love with you.”
His voice is raspy, his smile a little self-deprecating. His eyes, when Eddie stares at him in surprise, are steady and blue. He doesn't sound like he’s blurting something out, or getting something off his chest, or confessing something he’s embarrassed of. He just sounds like he’s telling Eddie about the weather, something mundane. The sun is hot in the sky, they’re in New Mexico, and Buck is, apparently, in love with him.
Buck confesses to Eddie after the kidnapping. Eddie, in a fit of madness, accepts his confession. It'll be fine - just because Eddie isn't in love with Buck, doesn't mean he can't be his boyfriend.
