Later, he would describe it like a puzzle: he'd gotten a box of puzzle pieces, some of them fit together, most did not. Some of them we covered in blood. Some of it was his, most was not. All he knew for certain was that he was missing more than he had. Some of them came back, most did not.
But it took him a long, long time to be able to get to 'later'. It took a long time for those pieces to be lost, and even longer for them to be put together again into something recognizable of 'before.'
The Captain was sure he was Bucky. He wasn't sure of anything, anymore.
